A Little Burnt Out

Ok. I'm done, at least for now. I am burnt out on limit poker, and right now my Limit Challenge seems like more of an obligation than a pastime. Don't get me wrong, I'm not done with poker, I just need a break from the grind of 6-max limit.

I've been playing mostly 6-max limit for several months now, and I was doing pretty well at it. Lately, I've been backsliding, and I honestly don't think that I can completely blame variance. I blame my day job.

Currently, work is enjoyable, interesting and demanding. In my last job I was working a straight 40, and the work was uninspiring at best. That left me craving the intellectual excitement of my poker hobby. In my current role, I am working hard and left drained by the end of the day, and more so by the end of the week. I just don't have the focus or desire that I had (and needed) to play shorthanded limit well.

So, what to do? I think I need to take a break from the challenge. The idea of NLHE ring games doesn't inspire me, so I think I will turn to tournaments. I really enjoy them; both live and online. I also like the idea of a structured challenge, so I have decided to try my hand at a personal SNG challenge, with the occasional MTT mixed in for fun.

As they say, a change is as good as a rest.

To start, I'm going to play 20 $10 SNGs in my challenge. As always I will keep results and report them here.

I've just wrote todays entry on my blog and then I come here and see you are feeling the same.
Good luck in the tourneys, I don't think a change of game every now and then hurts and hopefully when you return to the cash games you will feel refreashed and up for the challenge.

Perhaps you should consider taking a break. Acorn said not playing poker for a week allowed him to rediscover his hunger.

Whilst Playing STT's and MTTs can be exiting i think you have to expect more varience as people take more risks to build their stacks.

ive discovered that it doesnt matter what form of poker i play. If I cant focus then i wont play well so i try not too.

Good luck!

Good luck, Colin. I went through a similar situation last May and took a whole month to just play SNGs amd some MTTs. It really helped me and I was able to jump back on the limit wagon and have been there ever since.
